Combating Fatigue

Fatigue is one of those things that just gets in the way of your day!

The problem with being fatigued is that it usually hits you when you aren’t expecting it and is typically a result from lack of fuel or hydration.

Combating fatigue requires being a few steps ahead…

Fuel your body- If you are feeling empty then you most likely need to fuel your body with complex carbs these include foods such as: green vegetables, whole grains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and lentils that will sustain you and take longer to digest then refined carbohydrates (AKA SUGAR) that will increase blood sugar.

Stay Hydrated- Water intake is essential for combating fatigue. Good news is water is easily accessible (or should be!) Reality is- you have to drink it. If you don’t love drinking water then mix it up with lemon, berries, mint leafs. There are so many ways you can keep your water intake up and interesting. Your friends will want to be just like you when they see your fun flavored water.

Know what your body needs- You know your body better then anyone else (If you don’t then this could be something to work towards!) Whether it’s an early morning workout and you’ve neglected to fuel your body with post workout nutrients, its been a couple days of going hard physically, or it’s been an off week- know what your body needs. You might need a quick water and banana break or maybe you need to go to bed earlier so you are well rested for the day. Regardless, start identifying what your body needs, when and why.

It never hurts to be plan ahead/ plan accordingly:

  • Keep quick and easy snacks close by
  • Don’t neglect your water intake
  • Never underestimate listening to your body
